Gary Rankel
A W Kayak Fisherman From Florida

Gary is a kayak fisherman who takes his hobby seriously, and he's found some cool technical solutions that make his fishing experience more productive as well as enjoyable.

He goes on long fishing trips, which means he had to find a way to attach his kayak to his truck in a secure way for overnight stays in motels (see photo).

Gary's pulling mat
Gary needs to carry his kayak a long way from the parking lot over concrete. He didn't feel like using a trolley since it's a hassle to get it back to the car, and then get it from the car once he goes back to shore.  A trolley isn't that practical to carry on board either, so Gary simply drags his kayak on this slide that he made, which he can take onboard.

Gary uses a Wavewalk paddle since he often goes in shallow water where he sometime needs to pole.

Gary says: -"I like the W kayak a lot... One really nice advantage of the foam noodles which I wasn't expecting - -  I do a lot of sight fishing in very shallow water where it is important to keep noise to a minimum.  The foam noodles provide a great platform for resting my fishing rod or paddle without making any noise whatsoever."

Gary's favorite online kayak fishing discussion forum is the Jacksonville Kayak fishing Forum.

"The One That Got Away"-
Gary's version:
-"I had an interesting trip 3 weeks ago when I hooked a huge snook, fought it for about an hour, and then as I pretty much had him tired out, a shark (I think) came along and bit him in half.  I pulled in half a snook that weighed 18lbs from head to dorsal fin - what a great experience but what a shame that fish had to die.  I never saw what hit it but I assume it was a shark. "
